A quick question?
Has anyone installed a GHA-15 on their RV-10?=C2- If so do you have any s
uggestions for placing the antenna?I have read the installation manual.
With many thanks in anticipation

Subject: | Fitting HF radio to an RV-10 |
I live in very remote Australia which is generally far away from any VHF re
ception.I note the Earthrounders generally fit HF radio to their craft and
therefore question how anyone would fit an HF radio to their RV-10?
There are examples of such installations on the internet, particularly for
Mooneys, but most are now so out of date, the hyperlinks are no longer vali
d.=C2- Wolf Reichenberger, for example, describes how he has used a Yaesu
FT857D radio plus YT-100 antenna tuner and using a 10 metre trailing anten
na, for his trans-oceanic flights in his DA-42.=C2- This radio equipment
is, of course, also obsolete.=C2- The new equivalent equipment would appe
ar to be the Yaesu FT-891 radio coupled to an FC-50 antenna tuner.
However I can find no details of how to attach the trailing antenna; Wolf s
hows that he simply throws his wire bundle out through a port he has constr
ucted in his passenger storm window but we do not have such in the 10.
If any one has any idea how I could progress the installation, particularly
of the trailing=C2-antenna, I would be most grateful?
With many thanks and kind regards,
Rodger

Subject: | Re: Fitting HF radio to an RV-10 |
Hi Roger,
I was discussing this with a Aircraft Maintenance Engineer friend of mine ju
st last week.
I=99m located at Narromine and have been considering an HF and 2m / 70
cm installation in my RV10.
2m and 70 cm are reasonably easy to achieve but HF is a bit more of problem.
I was thinking of a long wire ATU like the FC40 and a wire off both wing ti
p trailing edges up to the vertical stabiliser feed from one end by the ATU i
n a wing.
RF might cause some dramas with the rest of the Avionics so it would require
some careful testing.
Cheers
