Ron,
I could scan the old slider drawings for you if that's any good - will come
out in multiple parts though.
The bits are fairly basic compared to the newer canopies (e.g. no roller,
just nylon block slider 'foot'); don't know whether the 8 bits will improve
it though.
Slider also needs a different roll-over structure.

I have a flying RV3 with a sliding canopy. The canopy is very light and
mine slides real well on just the plastic blocks against the aluminum
fuselage rail.
The canopy tends to slide closed due to flight loads, so you do not need a
latch at all!
KISS principle at work here.

Hi Ron,
check out dwg 34, 1984 onwards, it shows the details.
Seems easy enough.

Hi Rick,
I've had a look at the plans and from what I can see the canopy
parts for the 3 are probably unique to that type. The slider is
surprisingly simple and it would not be hard to make all the bits and
pieces from the plans.
To try and answer the questions.
1. There are milled nylon blocks which form the "front sliders"
as it were, they are 3/4 x 3/4 x 15/16 blocks which attach to and run
paralell with a longeron. No rollers here, friction/ loose fit.
2.There is a 1/2" hoop as it were which attach's to the "front screen" and
to a longeron, is this your area of question? I'd be very surprised if there
was
any similarity between the 3 and 8 or 9.
3. The latch is a straight forward affair and may be compatable with other
types like the 8 but it was designed a long time before the 8 was
probably even thought about, see section F-F dwg 34, 1984 and onwards.
I know I didn't help much.
