--> RV3-List message posted by: rob ray <smokyray@yahoo.com> Jim; The prop guard leading edge tape product applied to a unprotected prop works as well as anything I have seen, 2700 RPM in heavy rain with not even a scratch. For us Southerners who have rain every day, that is a huge plus. Performance degradation is minimal from my own tests. Check it out at www.propguard.com Rob Ray PS: MT props do very well down here too.... LessDragProd@aol.com wrote: --> RV3-List message posted by: LessDragProd@aol.com The two blade Warnke prop I had on the Lycoming O-290 had a urethane leading edge that worked very well in the rain. (The rain found me three times on the trip to Oshkosh in 1990. As I recall, it didn't even damage the finish behind the leading edge.) A friend had another brand 2 blade fixed pitch wood prop with the a urethane leading edge, except the leading edge was also clear coated. In the rain, the clear coating chipped off of the leading edge. (For a variety of reasons, that propeller company is not in business any more. So there doesn't seem to be a need to name names.) My RV-3 now has wood blades on the 3 blade propeller. Each blade has a stainless steel leading edge. It passed the rain and ICE impact tests required for certified propellers. It is an electric 3 blade Constant Speed propeller with wood blades from MT Propeller. My best time from brake release (40' MSL) to 10,000' AGL is 9 minutes 16 Seconds. That's with full fuel and me flying it. The propeller works well for the 140 hp engine and the 300# pilot. (It would definitely climb better with a "normal weight" pilot.)
