I had a guy who is 6'-2" and 220 lbs ask me "would he fit in an RV-3 slider cockpit". I have no idea. Do any of you know of someone who is close to this size that flies okay in this airplane. Thanks, Rick Fogerson

Everyone's proportions are different, but yes, I've heard of guys that big fitting ok. The cockpit is 24" wide at the skins, but Van is probably 6'2" or so himself and he designed it for him originally. If your friend is ok with a tight fit he should make it but the best answer is to have him go to a flyk-in and politely ask an owner to sit in a cockpit, then he'll know for sure. Rick, I'm not sure if there's a difference in canopy height between the slider and tip-up, but I'm 6'-3 1/2", 200 lbs. and fit in my RV-3 tip-up...albeit with no extra head room. Vans site says the cockpit is big enough for pilots up to about 6'-3". Rick, I'm 6'2", 225lbs. and fit just fine in my RV-3. I even fit with a Strong chair type chute if I remove the main seat cushion. The sliders are harder to get in and out of than the tip-overs. Once you're down in the seat, you have plenty of room.
