Currently I have just a cable (don't like it) I want something that will hold the canopy open even if there is a little wind that may blow the canopy closed. Any suggestions out there please. Mine has this info on it: Gas Spring Company, Colmar, PA. # FEN 117, 172 0. It has a right angle ball joint mtg. bracket on each end and is mounted on the right side of the roll bar and attached to the right center of the canopy frame. I could take a picture and send it to you as far as the installation if that would be of help. Did a brief search for the company but didn't find it. Not sure if they are still around. This came with the kit I purchased from another builder, so don't know if it is original equipment or by the previous builder. I see Van's also has some in their accessory catalog (2002-2003) on pg. 43, part # C609. Not sure if they would work. The barrel on mine is about 3/4" dia with a 3/8" rod. Prox 10" when extended. I didn't measure but this is a close estimate. I first soaked it with hot towels and soapy water to hydrate the coating. Then fired up my trusty 2500 psi high pressure washer. Blasted the coating off. Took 10 minutes and worked great. I had tried rubbing alcohol but that stuff didn't touch it at all. Mount it between the roll bar cross brace and the canopy cross brace. It's light and simple and it locks open. Pat Allender RV-4 flying
