Does anyone have any photos, or links to photos, showing the placement of
engine compartment accessories on the firewall of the RV-4. In particular,
where did you place the cabin heat box and the throttle/mixture cable
openings? Would you do it differently next time?

Subject: | RV4 gear reinforcement |
--> RV4-List message posted by: PGLong@aol.com
About a year ago, I downloaded a picture that shows a reinforcement made to
the engine / landing gear assembly. This fix was to make the frame stronger
where I believe hard landings caused some buckling of the firewall and
crumpled side skins on the fuselage. I have the picture JPG, but no mention
of anything else, such as material used etc. Did a lot of poking around on
search engines and have not turned up anything on it. My RV4 is a mid 80's
with the short gear legs. Anyone else recall this discussion?

Pat,
I had some problems with buckling on my first RV-4, the one I bought
(kit bought in early 90's and had the thicker corner weldements). I may
have been the one who sent you the pictures (I sent them to about eight
different people who inquired on & off-list). Some of the pics are from
another gentleman's "fix" and are reinforcements to the fuselage brackets,
longerons, etc... My fix (on the RV-4 I built) was a nice & thick (1/4
inch) piece of aluminum about 2 inches wide, mounted across the full width
of the center, on the engine side of the firewall (if you want to know all
the details, I suppose I could go measure it and try to take a few digital
pics. I have put everything back together since I took the original pics,
so it won't be as clear/straight forward of shots. Are you having buckles
appear?
Chuck

Hi Chuck,
No, your was not the fix I had read about. I would be interested in what you
did though. I have not added any reinforcement yet, but am about to. My RV 4
is not quite ready to fly and probably won't for a year or so. The fix I had
was on the inside of the firewall. Attached is a picture for what it is
worth.

Dear Listers,
I just wanted to send out a quick note to let everyone know that the 1.5Mb
T1 connection upgrade went smoothly today. They brought up the new line
and router yesterday on a test subnet and today the ISP switched over
connectivity about 12 noon with little to no incident. I just finished
some performance testing, and it appears that actual throughput and
interactive response is noticeably improved as advertised!
Enjoy!
