Guys, Can anyone tell me where the heck the fresh air vents work the best on
a 4?
I can't seem to get a real straight answer from the list archives or
from any other Rv owners. Could anyone help? This must be a problem for not
just me. What does Van's have to say on the subject? I don't need anything too
fancy I just want some FRESH AIR! Thanks, Jim Mandeville # 111

Jim-
On my recently completed -4 I placed one NACA vent on the left side of the
fuselage, about 5" below the top longeron and about 6" forward of the
instrument panel bulkhead, and another in the lower surface of the right
wing a la RV-8 with 2" ducting into the stick well in the back seat. They
work great! The front air system will blow you out unless you restrict it
somewhat. I haven't had any passengers yet in the back, but checking the
airflow there seems to be more than ample. As an aside, I used some elbows
and fittings from a residential central vacuum cleaner system to control the
direction of air and keep the bend radius manageable. They work just fine
with the 2" duct. Hope this helps.
