      Hi Group

I just posted a picture of the crack that is seen in my prop hub bore. Sure
would like some opinions as to if this is airworthy or not. Crack is in both
sides and radiate towards each tip. Don't think they are deep or even rob any
necessary strength but then again, a prop specialist I am not. Thought about
trying to fill with some thin epoxy. What do you think? Click on the picture at

this address for a close up.

      Pat,
I've worked around numerous wooden props in my 25+ years of aircraft
      maintenance and have
always been taught that any crack, no matter how small, is no good. A crack
      cannot be repaired
and then the prop be rebalanced. You don't want to sling a blade at 300
      feet, or at any altitude.
It is my opinion that you should engrave "Not Airworthy" on the hub and
retire it to the wall above
the fireplace. Better safe than sorry.

Or retire it into the fireplace.
