I just found out that Van's is now using fiberglass gear leg fairing instead
of the aluminum ones that came with my older kit. I'm wondering if they are
molded top and bottom and how they are attached to the leg and pants. I have
the two piece wheel pants and aluminum "V" shaped piece that would take a lot of
work to fit and fair. Has anyone used these on an RV4? Just about ready to
tackle this job but if there is a better way, I'm all ears. Thanks for your help.

The aluminum leg fairings are what I have on my RV4. They attach to the gear leg
by riveting hinge material to their trailing edge and running a hinge wire down
the entire length of the leg from inside the cockpit. You drill a small hole
through the fuselage where the wire comes up from the leg which stabilizes
the fairing. You can install wooden dowel gear stiffeners wrapped with fiberglass
to dampen shimmy's underneath the leg fairing. All of this is in the builders
manual. At the wheel pant you make a glass fairing that attaches to the wheelpant
using standard fiberglass molding procedures (modeling clay, mold release)
then split the new fairing away from the wheel pant and attach it with screws.
There are a million ways to skin a cat, go to a RV fly-in and get ideas...

I have not worked with them, but a friend of mine has the fiberglass ones on
his newly completed Rocket. They are very nice. In addition, they seem to
hold the wheel pant more securely.
