Hi Bob. I have the short gear legs.For going into two of the less than 1000' long
strips I frequent, I like them. I did alot of takeoff and landings on the short
(950') with the 180 C/S RV4 (I delivered it recently for a friend) during
rigging. It has what I believe is the best stol combo, the short gear and 180
C/S. The prop really makes it nice for slowing down to land and very short takeoffs
big climb rates. I still like the lean look of the metal gear fairings...see
ya!

Smoky Ray;
Does your RV-4 have the short or long main gear legs?
I had shimmy problems with my short gear legs but no problems with the long
gear legs.
I really like the short gear better, for taxi visibility and ability to
touch-down with tail wheel first.
I like the @#$& fibreglas fairings very well.
