The valve OD is just slightly smaller than the ID of the 3 inch scat tubing that takes air from the upper cowling to my cooler. The valve can be opened and closed from the cockpit, and can be used to keep my oil temps between 190-210 degrees, winter and summer, here in Missouri. Steven D. If not , then the oil circulated through the oil cooler all the time. The Vernatherm opens when the oil heats up,and lets it circulate through the cooler, then closes when the oil cools down. The oil could run so cool in cold weather that circulation would be inhibited. Bob Olds RV-4 , N1191X A&P , EAA Tech.
