I've been subscribed to this list for a while now so I figured I would try get one of you to help me. I've just finished my first batch of molded vortex generators ("bulletproof" clear lexan) and I know they work fantastic on my aircraft (Rans S-7) but I want some really good numbers from RVs. Does one of you want to do a little testing for me? Preferably someone that has an attitude that pays very close attention to detail. I'll need detailed reports of the affect of VGs on stall, cruise, climb, and handling. Also, it will have to be someone that can do the testing right away- IOW someone that flies nearly every day and has time to do the tests. BTW the VGs are generally put on with double sided carpet tape that is stuck to a very thin piece of packing tape. This tape can then be moved fore and aft to decide optimal location. I'll also be interested in someone doing either tuft testing or oil film testing to help find the optimal location. I really haven't gone "public" with these yet but when I do I think folks are going to find them a *very* affordable and easy way to get great low speed handling performance. Thanks guys! All the research has been done , and they work great. I put them on my RV-4 for added low-end stability on approach to my 1100' grass strip. I must fly between tall trees on short final and the extra low-speed stability is nice. Stall is down 7-8 MPH also. I can see no degradation of top speed. These VG's are aluminum alloy and come with two-part adhesive and templates for installation. Why reinvent the wheel ??? Bob Olds RV-4 , N1191X A&P , EAA Tech. But they charge a whole lot for what you get. I would encourage others to do further research & development on VG's and present competition to help drive down the prices. I have no input positive or negative but realized that I just don't need them for the type of flying that I do. Someone make me a respectable offer off this list and they might be on your doorstep in a few days.
