Pat, It appears that someone has removed the vernatherm in lieu of a oil pressure/temp
sender. The vernatherm has a large bolt head and screws into the end of
the oil screen housing. With Lycoming oil filter adapters, it screws into a
cyllinder under the filter housing. If you are planning to install a Lycoming
oil filter adapter you can remove the current screen housing and replace it with
the adapter and buy a vernatherm to install in it. Unfortunately, they ain't
cheap...$200+.
You do need a vernatherm...
