Rob,
Thanks for the Van's Airforce pointer. I just found a number of RV-4s in
the general vicinity. Hopefully I can connect with one.
My experience is nothing like yours. Welcome home!!!
I am a pilot with 200 hours (that's very little) going on 50 hours in a
Citabria.
I am still learning to fly, and expect I always will be learning...
I am capable but conservative, and far from expert. I know that I will not
solo an RV-4, or any other plane, before becoming comfortable in that plane
with an instructor teaching me the ropes. Insurance requires 10+ hours in
type before insuring me in the RVs. I wouldn't solo before that, and not
at all until I felt comfortable (or perhaps until my CFI felt comfortable)
that I could safely fly. Then I would continue to practice a lot and fly
with an instructor on less favorable days.
I will work hard to keep myself, and my plane safe and happy and off of the
NTSB lists.
From the building side I'd consider myself mechanically inclined. I've
spent time taking cars apart and putting them back together, similar
experiences with radios, TVs and such. I am also fortunate to have friends
in the area building RV-7As. I realize that with time requirements
building my own would be a very long-term project. Someday I will start,
and plan for slow progress. Today I'll help my friends and learn the ropes
before starting my own.
I'd like to learn to fly the RV-4 and work at becoming a proficient RV-4 pilot.
I'd like to make trips to Florida to visit you for lunch! ;-)
