After all was said and done I raced both airplanes with my stock RV4 before and after and noticed very little change. Alot of work and money for the conversion that I would have rather spent on gas.One thing I did like was the James plenum chamber, but you could make one out of aluminum that would work fine for alot less $$. The Van's cowl works just fine. Keep it light and stock, install a strong 160-170HP 0-320 and composite prop, minimum panel, odyessey battery and keep it under 950 lbs and you'll love it. I sure do... Rob Ray Steve Sampson wrote: --> RV4-List message posted by: "Steve Sampson" Has anyone on this group experience of the 'Holy Cowl'? I was thinking it was worth exploring using a Holy Cowl / Plenum from the start in place of the VANS cowl/ baffles. I thought cost wise it might be equal, and better made. I like the look of it. I found the VANS cowls for the -9 to be a poor fit and requiring lots of work. There are not a lot of people rushing forward though saying 'good plan'. I will probably get a Superior IO-320 and MT prop. I am not one for heavy panels or interiors so it will pretty much match your spec. Yes I will get an Oyessey. Does it fit on the front of the firewall behind the engine mount OK? Is that the right thing to do for CofG? Similarly does the Stewart Warner oil cooler hang on the rear baffel in front of the engine mount OK like on the -7 and -9? Thanks for all the advice, Steve. ----- Original Message ----- From: "rob ray" Subject: Re: RV4-List: Holy Cowl > --> RV4-List message posted by: rob ray > > Steve, I helped two friends convert RV4's from standard to the Holy Cowl. > After all was said and done I raced both airplanes with my stock RV4 > before and after and noticed very little change.
