--> RV4-List message posted by: "Deal Fair" <dealfair@usawide.net> Hi Gang! Van's just shipped my 4 pipes. I didn't see any heat muff in the catalog for them. Where do you get the muff for them??? I failed to ask when ordering. Man the -4 list has been great lately! Rob Ray wrote a fantastic article about slow-flying and safety in the RViator. Always a pertinent subject. Don't know all of you, but I like knowing you are out there somewhere SAFE & WELL. Take care. Deal Fair, George West, TX

--> RV4-List message posted by: rob ray <smokyray@yahoo.com> Thanks Bob, I know I'm not the only one who had a heat problem however comma, I'm glad others out there have not. Every installation is different and by far everyone's mileage may vary. The bottom line is heat insulation is good regardless if you have a heat problem or not. I am only sharing what MY RV4 was like and how I handled the problem. In the event of a fire under the hood (and I have been on fire in the air before) you want every bit of protection you can get from the heat. The several ounces the material weighs and the time involved to install it is time very well spent. Trust me, my RV4 isn't the only one who regularly flies in the South in the summer. If you get yours done and test fly it and have a cool cockpit, great. I am sharing my information for those who have a heat problem or want to avoid it. Larry Vetterman makes the absolute best exhaust system you can get and it sounds wonderful. I am sharing my 2 cents and 1500 hours of RV4 time for what it's worth to those who "may" need it. Merry Christmas! Rob Ray Oldsfolks@aol.com wrote: --> RV4-List message posted by: Oldsfolks@aol.com In the early days of the RV-4,a friend started the engine in his RV-4 and thought his engine was going to fly apart. He had the John Harmon early pipes with no turn-down tips. He discovered that the exhaust was the problem, with the impulses against the floor making all the noise. He added turn-down tips and all was OK. I had the same thing on our first RV-4 but I knew of his problem and put the tips on right away. I wore tan soft rubber soled shoes and most of Van's group did also. The rear edge of everyones heels were melted at about a 45 degree angle from the heat on the floor with the straight-out pipes.
