Hi all,
I am procrastinating over installation of cockpit ventilation. I walk the
rows of completed RV4's at fly-ins, etc. and see many different
configurations for getting air into the cockpit. Everything from holes in
the wing root fairings, NACA inlets placed nearly everywhere, to pop-outs.
Does anyone out there have a system that has worked well for them? I'm also
interested in designs and inlet locations that don't work. I am building a
very simple, light weight manual bird. Thanks for your help in advance.

Hi Brian,
I live in Springfield MO, and it gets really hot here in the summer. I tried
adding a NACA vent on the left side of the cockpit, right below the
throttle/mixture controls. It DID NOT work so I subsequently patched the
cutout. Must be a low pressure area right above and behind the leading edge
of the wing at the root.
Good Luck. If you dicover something that works well, let me know.
PS. I have had good results with the autoshade film that you can get at any
auto supply. You can easily cut it to shape and put it on the inside of the
canopy above your head in the summer, and take it off in the winter. I does
help cut the amount of solar heating you get under the canopy.

I just put one of the Vans pop out vents in my RV 4 and it works great. I
would recommend doing so! It seals up pretty good too.
