Hey Pat,
I use a Landoll Balancer on my -4 and have been very pleased with its'
performance. The documentation you have is all I got when I received mine.
Just follow the picture and look up the bolt torque requirements in the
Aircraft Standards and Procedures Manual (AC 46.13) and you should be set.

Hi and thanks Glenn, that is pretty much what I decided to do as there
doesn't seem to be much info available.

Glenn, Pat,
I bought my Landoll balancer at SNF 99' back when Mark used to carry a bunch
in his RV4 to the fly-ins. I pulled my cowling at the show, pulled my extension
with prop off and bolted it on sans instructions. Piece of cake. It came with
grade 8 bolts but I chose aircraft bolts instead and flew home with it.
It has been on for 1000 hours now in all temperatures and with 4 different
props. Definitely improves the smoothness but the real benefit is the flywheel
effect and extra 12 lbs on the nose it contributes. I have noticed several things.
First it is a race car clutch balancer so it has silicone fluid inside that
moves to the heavy and light sides while spinning and takes about 10 hours
to settle out. When it does, you will notice an improvement in overall smoothness
in cruise. Good call...

Pat,
In fact if you're careful you can slip the alt belt back on when you reinstall
the flywheel without loosening the alt bolts...Anytime I need to get to the
flywheel or change a belt I always remove the extension from the flange rather
than the prop. Much easier...
Re-safety wiring the ext/flange bolts takes the most time for the job!
I like simple...
see ya!

Hi RV4 Listers ..
I just purchased Ron Awad's RV-4 and will soon fly it from the East side of
Charlotte NC to just West of Chicago O'hare area. I'm wanting to know which
direction most of you would fly heading out of Charlotte. Would you go
South of Charlotte and make an end run around the mountains or would you go
over the pass at Ashville and head straight out for a direct course to
Chicago area? The airplane is VFR only so it's a given that the ground has
to be visible.
I'll make two stops for fuel not more than 300 miles at a time. Any
suggested places to stop or avoid. The first stop will be an over night so
it'd be nice to have it close to a hotel (town area).
Crosswind landings ... what should a newbie pilot (in the 4) avoid in the
way of maximum wind velocity for cross? Any other suggestions that would
help?
Many thanks ...

Hi Jerry, have you flown in that RV-6 taildragger yet? If so how did you do?
I think the RV 4 can handle quite high cross winds, and I find it to be a
easy plane as far as taildraggers go. But you do got to work those pedals
like any taildragger!
