I asked this question on Vansairforce but got nothing from the -4
community. I thought I would try here, since it must have been
considered.
With all the -4 flying in the USA is there any 'conventional wisdom'
about offsetting the VS at the front spar to the left to reduce the need
for right rudder in order to fly in trim?
I found a bit about it in the matronics archives back in '98 but nothing
since. They were talking 1/4". The -9 is certainly designed this way and
I expect the -7.
If yes, how much offset? Also does it mean you have to throw the VANS
fairing out?
Thoughts?
Thanks, Steve.

I am building a RV-4 but have not worked on it in a while. I do remember
building in offset to the vertical stablizer. I
don't remember if it was 1/4 inch or 3/8 inch but was built
in when I attached it.Don't recall if it was in the instructions or not
but I did read it somewhere to do that.

I have built two RV-4's and set the HS in line with the fuselage. There
are enough variables in building with out adding more possibilities of out
-of-trim.

Hi Steve,
I considered offsetting the VS, but after talking to a couple of people with flying
4s (Including Van's) I decided to mount it straight as per plans.
