Subject: Fw: Running Drugs or selling items
--> RV6-List message posted by: "Dave von Linsowe" <davevon@tir.com> In an different, but equally if not more devastating situation, I became the target of Nigerian mail back scammers while selling my prop on Barn Stormers. Fortunately for me, I was a little leery of the deal and the bank wasn't eager to say the Wells Fargo Cashiers check was as good as cash. The scam works by relying your honesty to wire back excess funds from a bogus cashiers check that they FedEx to you. Banks have even been duped by telling your that the check is as good as cash. You wire back the money, the bank finds out that the check was a fraud and empties your account for the amount of the check. In some cases the victims have ended up owing the bank a considerable amount of money. I've been in contact with the Secret Service (the lead investigators) and they are working on the problem. There are those who have lost hundreds of thousands to these scams! Early scams used people's greed, these will try to use your honesty. This site has a lot of useful info http://www.geocities.com/scamvictimsunited/index.html Beware and spread the word. Dave RV-6 The need for (more) speed---->

They are designed to be used on roads. On the ground, strobes are not usually seen for more than a half mile. They are also meant to be not completely blinding when driving directly next to the vehicle with the strobes. This is very much not the case with the duty of an aircraft strobe. They need to be seen several miles away to give time to plan evasive maneuvers. They are never meant to be seen at very close range. Please research the strobe power packs by their outputs. It will be either joules or watts. What you will find about the emergency vehicle strobe power packs is they are no where near powerful enough. What you will find about the cheaper Aeroflash strobes is that they are no where near as bright as the honking good quality Whelens. You will find that you get what you pay for. Cheap strobes work like cheap strobes. RV's are very fast and therefore bright strobes are more important than on Cessnas. This subject seems to get a discussion about once a year on this list. There should be lots of info in the archives. I was convinced enough to buck up for the good ones on my plane. Norman Hunger RV6A Delta BC

--> RV6-List message posted by: CharlesRV6@aol.com I think you are right about getting what you pay for. I chose to get a under the fusalage strobe from Aircraft Spruce. After I pay for the painting and accumulate a bit more cash I'll go for the Whelans. Thanks for the input. Chas.
