I am showing a voltage surge, from 12.5 to 16.0, it is regular every 1 to 2 seconds, any thoughts on what to look for first. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks RV6A, 67MK, Larry Salerno ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 08:40:38 AM PST US From: "J. An overvoltage circuit from B&C would have prevented the spike to my components. One was installed shortly after. It was just a bad regulator. While in NM visiting with my son my alternator started behaving similarly to yours. I can't recall how high it surged past 14 but it disturbed me enough re: toasting the battery that I called Van's. They said it was likely the voltage regulator and that it would probably be OK for the trip home to OH. Fortunately I went to the NAPA store and bought a new part anyhow, for installation install when home. On the way to Borger TX, I dealt with the surges by turning the alternator field off and on until it finally did not come back on. When turned on it would go to normal charge and then creep up again. At Borger, with no charge I had to install the new part. No A&P to borrow tools from but a friendly guy came by with a pickup and loaned me what I needed to install the new voltage regulator. There are 3 terminals and 2 wires which I thought were connected properly. Not so. So I turned off most electrical stuff. By Guthrie OK, with low battery and no radio, I selected the non controlled field with several A&Ps, but all working on rush jobs, but they loaned me tools so I could finally get the wires right. Guthrie had friendly people, a courtesy car, a nearby motel and barbecue restaurant. Since the new voltage regulator went on I have had no further alternator problem.
