This is now a weaker area of the cowling; I did not build the airplane and am wondering what I should do about the heat first and then the cowling. The cowling may have been like this since my last oil change and perhaps will be something I deal with down the road. I can not imagine this causing a major failure but will probably just become unsightly to a point where it needs to be fixed. Any feed back is wanted and welcome. Thank you, John Paul Montana ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 07:34:38 AM PST US From: Jeff Orear Subject: Re: RV6-List: Heat and Cowling RV6 John: Van's sells a self-adhesive foil heat shield material that you can stick on the inside of the cowl in the area where heat is a factor. Just make sure you clean the area real well so it will adhere. K2R spot remover does real well to suck oil out of the pre-preg type epoxy cowls that Vans now supplies with their kits if that is the type you have. If not, just use naphtha (coleman's lantern fuel) or lacquer thinner.
