John:- the first thing, clean the area, sand it to clean the best way you can. not too much -then put a fine coat of super fill,(,, a two part) item- goes 2 to one ,,- read the container -let over night.. then- sand smooth..- clean.--- "Apply , paint I used rustoleum, heat resistan,,- I preferred- white... Once dry,,, put a wide piece of Self Adhesive, Aluminum tape,- lbuy anywh ere Auto parts, Home Depot...is about 6" wide.. put a long piece right under th e Exhaust pipes.-- I might do as many do, perhaps a better way... I have seen where they use aluminum sheets instead of tape,, and over the entire inside of the cowl....you also get that under home... at home depot,,it has like writ ing all over,, my friend at the airpot did that, it looks good,,with some color inside.. and it is fully protected against heat fire etc... - Hope this will help - Bert - RV6a - do not archive --- On Sat, 10/18/08, John Paul Noyes <info@bigskymartialarts.com> wrote: From: John Paul Noyes <info@bigskymartialarts.com> Subject: RV6-List: Heat and Cowling RV6 RV Group, - I have an RV6, changed the oil today and noticed that the bottom cowling ha s a bubble about 6=94 in diameter next to the exhaust where it makes the be nd from the manifold (closest point to the cowling), obviously the exhaust is to hot for the cowling at this point, from the out side of the cowling y ou can also just see the bubble.- This is now a weaker area of the cowlin g; I did not build the airplane and am wondering what I should do about the heat first and then the cowling.- The cowling may have been like this si nce my last oil change and perhaps will be something I deal with down the r oad.- I can not imagine this causing a major failure but will probably ju st become unsightly to a point where it needs to be fixed.- Any feed back is wanted and welcome. - Thank you, John Paul Montana -http://www.matronics.com/Navigator?RV6-Listhttp://forums.matroni cs.comhttp://www.matronics.com/contribution - =0A=0A=0A
