Insurance rates are all about experience level (well, a little about how
much the ins company is making in the stock market at the moment).
I started flying lessons about 20 yrs ago with no desire to fly TW, then
stumbled into a great deal on a 1/3 share of a Luscombe & learned to fly
in that. I have almost no time in nosegear planes since then, & I don't
pay any more for TW RV insurance than nosewheel.
To be clear, I'm not talking about *experience*, not ability. The
underwriter just looks at numbers; he doesn't watch you (or me) fly.

Ron, are you talking about grass strips when you say 'unimproved landing
areas'? You're kidding, right?
Guys, if you only fly off pavement & are happy limiting yourself to that
kind of flying, then TW really does come down to appearance & if you
don't want a TW, don't get one. On the other hand, don't be deceived
into believing you have to have the skills of Chuck Yeager or Bob Hoover
to safely fly a TW.
