Subject: | ...a most mysterious RV... |
A quite unusual RV...(I believe it was an RV-6A)...visited the Orcas Island Fly-In
(WA) this past weekend...one about which I would like to know much more.
It was BY FAR the quietest RV I have EVER seen and just barely heard. It was literally
whisper-quiet. I've been told it had a 4 bladed prop though this I cannot
confirm to be true.
We see a lot of RVs from "down Sound" so I'm quite familiar with their typical
Lycomings.
In fact, it was the quietest airplane on take off I've ever heard in my life, other
than a couple of electrically powered ones.
I'd be most grateful for any information on it's owner, power plant, and propeller
anyone can post.
Fred

Could be a tire balance issue or excessive speed that starts the shimmy.
When new (2005) my RV-6A did it and I torqued the big nut up a little
tighter and the past 200 hours have been trouble free.
