--> RV7-List message posted by: Skykingjfg@aol.com I had the same problem. I called Van's and asked if I could shim the trim servo up using a .032 aluminium shim between the servo and the bracket. They recommended that I trim some of the plastic off of the servo. I don't like that idea. I think I'll try the shims. and possibly squeeze the rivets a bit too

--> RV7-List message posted by: Skykingjfg@aol.com I've been using Sherwin Williams P60G2 industrial wash primer for most of the large surfaces. It is a 2 part primer (but not epoxy) and is easy to use. I believe this is the same thing Van uses on their quick build kits. For touch up I've been using NAPA 7220 rattle can. It is a self etching primer that works good. There are plenty of 40 year old aluminium airplanes around in good condition that were not primed. On the other hand most of the people building RV's will be in bad shape in 40 years (I'll be 90). Don't sweat it. Build it fast and fly it soon. It will outlive you, primed or not primed. Godspeed

--> RV7-List message posted by: "Dana Overall" <bo124rs@hotmail.com> After answering a couple e-mails here lately concerning the wiring issue with the 7 wing, I thought I would post a picture. For those building the 7 and probably the 8, the tooling holes at the aft portion of the wing ribs are perfectly lined up. I used a unibit and bore each hole out to 5/8" and ran this PVC pipe though. I know this is an old hat technique but these tooling holes get the pipe out of the way of everything, including pitot lines, aileron pushrod and bellcrank. http://rvflying.tripod.com/p1030002.jpg Dana Overall Richmond, KY http://rvflying.tripod.com do not archive

--> RV7-List message posted by: Dwight Frye <dwight@openweave.org> Just to add another $0.02 to the discussion ... I got by with just squeezing the rivets a bit more. On a related note, to get the whole assembly to go through the hole in the elevator I also had to trim the aluminum flange from the Z-bracket quite aggressively. It now trimmed almost as close to the edge of the plastic mounting flange as I can make it. -- Dwight Do Not Archive On Fri Jan 3 09:57:12 2003, Skykingjfg@AOL.com wrote : > >--> RV7-List message posted by: Skykingjfg@aol.com > >I had the same problem. --> RV7-List message posted by: "Norman" <nhunger@sprint.ca> > I've tried Aircraft Finish Systems Waterborne primer and zinc chromate in spray cans. Does anyone know why it's important to use "aircraft" primer. What's the difference between a/c primer and various hardware store primers, such as automotive primer? Geeze, it's been awhile since we've talked about primers so I'll say a few things. First, you have to know a fair bit about the primer you commit to it; should you even decide to use primer. Most primers are useless without a top coat of paint so what would be the point of doing the inside of your wings with them? Second, on the outside areas that will get painted, the various car paints that I am familiar with require the paint to go on the primer when the primer is less than 24 hours old. Third, the paint has to be compatable with the primer. That's two reasons to not primer any skins on the outsides. Fourth, good primers cost a fair bit. I use a two part epoxy Coulards Aerospace Super Korapon (spelling?) that is a water barrier. Very important that last bit. This primer is compatable with the Sherwin Williams Sunfire Acrylic Urathane paint that I am using on my interior bits. The down fall is that I am on my fouth set of pails and have spent $600 on it in the last 6 years. Granted I have done a few other little projects along the way but good primers increase the cost of a project significantly. I wonder how much weight I have added. Before I started building, I phoned up the local inspector (now retired) and asked for advice. The first thing he asked was do I plan on using primer. When I said yes he turned into a nice guy (west coast of Canada). He seemed to think aircraft around here without primer were asking for trouble. Anyhow, if your rattle cans don't provide a water barrier you may as well throw them away. Norman Hunger RV6A Delta BC Do not archive subjects that the archives are already full of.....

--> RV7-List message posted by: Matt Dralle <dralle@matronics.com> Dear Listers, I was particularly touched this year by all of the wonderful comments people made regarding the Lists and how much they mean to them. As I have said many times before, running these Lists and creating the many new features is truly a labor of love. I will be shipping out the third and final shipment of Flight Bags and A&P Text Books this afternoon. According to the Post Office, maximum delivery to the most remote of areas is 8 days. I will have no outstanding Gift requests following this shipment, so if you don't get the Gift(s) you requested by, say, the 20th of January, please let me know via email. I would also once again like to thank Andy Gold of the Builder's Bookstore ( http://www.buildersbooks.com ) who so generously supported this year's Fund Raiser with both free and substantially discounted merchandise!! Below you will find the 2002 List of Contributors #2 current as of 12/31/02! Have a look at the list of names there as these are the people that make all of the services possible! I can't thank you all enough for your support and great feedback during this year's Fund Raiser! Once again, THANK YOU for making this year's List Fund Raiser successful!
