The mil spec number is MIL-C-5541 . As others have said, check your local auto paint shop. PPG and Dupont have the product (as well as others). Here's one of many sites that describe the process: http://www.alphametal.com/chromate.htm The metal prep is just phosphoric acid which can be had at Home Depot or similar.
