-7/-8 builders,
Has anyone noticed a slight dip about an inch above & below (back of the
actual apex) the rolled leading edge of their tank skins & leading edge
skins?
While handling one of my cleco'd tanks, I felt the dip, & thought I had
somehow dented the leading edge. On further inspection, the 'dips' are
slight valleys running the entire length of the LE & are identical on
all 4 skins. On the top side, it's about where the 2nd rivet will be in
each rib. It seems unlikely that it's due to the ribs, because there is
no difference in the valley mid way between ribs.
I might be good at messing stuff up, but I ain't THAT good.
Thanks,
Charlie

No dips on/in my skins. My guess is shipping damage. Or maybe it was
damaged before it was packed. Is the valley in the same location plus or
minus the skin thickness?

It 'feels' like the tooling used to roll the LE didn't release smoothly
& left a slight 'crease' about an inch back from the apex. That's not an
adequate term for the problem; it's just the best I can come up with.
If I run my finger tips from LE toward the rear, I can feel a slight dip
that's about 1-2 inches wide instead of a continuous convex surface.

To add a little information, my wing kit (slow build) was shipped 8/16/01.
It has a barely perceptible dip on the top of the tanks and leading edges. I
wouldn't be surprised if some people have it and don't notice it.
