This is normal behavior for the relay. A fair amount of heat is
generated by the coil to keep the contacts closed.

Hey guys-
Well, my father and I are still on the RV kick, however, alot of the time,
he takes the adviceof his co-pilot's, etc when it comes to buying toys.. :)
We're not looking at buying anytime soon, we have decided the immediate
future won't hold time for us to build on.. However, I am about to leave for
Airline Transport Professional's flight school, so it will be a little
while...I hope to be hired on with them once my training is complete as an
instructor.. Part of that process involves a "wait" to get the instructor
slot at the location you request.. Which means, I could spend 4-5 months
answering ATP's phone in Jax.. I'm sick and tired of renting, I'd rather be
putting that money toward my own airplane.. So what I've been thinking
about doing is buying one.. Especially to have something to fly, should I
get to answer phones for months before a slot opens for me..
Anyway, my dad was recently talking to a copilot of his who said he had
considered getting an RV, but didn't because it's becomming harder and
harder to get someone to do the annuals on them, since they are "homebuilts"
and that it would be extremely hard to sell an RV once this becomes more
prevalent than it already is..
So, I turn to you guys to help me out.. I don't think this is the case at
all, as it seems the regs for sport flyers is changing to make it easy on
sport flyers...
So... I know some of you will have some advice and wisdom, so let the flood
gates open!
Thanks Guys!
Jeff

Well, I've owned various homebuilts since 1991 (none of which I built) &
I've never had a problem finding an A&P willing to do the inspections.
Obviously it's not that easy everywhere. If you or your dad is competent
at doing maintenance & inspections *and* you have a friend or
acquaintance that's an A&P & knows you well enough to trust your skills
& judgment, it will be a lot easier to get the inspections/signoffs.

In a nutshell ...
We do our own but others have had **NO** problems getting their annual
condition inspections done by **COMPETENT** A&P's !!
When we needed something done that was beyond what we wanted to tackle
(engine related) a local A&P shop put their "best and brightest" on it. When
I needed some work done at the MAJOR FBO (that normally has a shop full of
Citations, Lears etc, along with Bonanzas, Cirruses, Cessnas and an
occasional Piper (like mine), they had NO reservations working on it.
I would think that the best thing to do if you have a "favorite" shop is to
visit with them ahead of time and see what issues they may (or may not)
have.
Where are you located? JAX? I would bet that you could find a list of people
in that area who would do it. You can get a list of RV people in your area
and then ask them about A&Ps that can/will do RVs.
Any of your dad's "co-pilots" ever own an RV and have this problem or are
they speculating?

Everyone-
Thanks for the advice you have all given..
I'm going to give the "local" A&P guy around here a call and see what he
says.. I am located in Florence, Alabama, but am not sure where I will be
within the next several months..
James- The 2nd officer who mentioned this issue is a gyro copter guy..
Which, doesn't make sense to me why my dad is listening to him since he has
a severe loathing for anything that "tries to spin it's wings off." :) He
considers heli's "unsafe at any speed." :D The SO appearantly said he was
going to buy an RV until he found out "all these RV guys" are having trouble
getting signoff's on theirs.. Sounds to me like he has RV envy.. My dad and
I had were all set to buy something else, like a 182 or a Bonanza.. However,
we don't really want to pay the Bonanza parts prices, just to have "beech"
written on our airplane.. We have a 172XP and may keep it for "more than 2
people" cross countries.. I'd just like to get something that I can tool
around in for several months/year and then if need be, turn around and sell
it without too much hassle.. I'd love to get an RV4 but I am 6'4" and 250lbs
and I dunno if I'd fit in one. ;) So, looks like I'm on the trail of a 6, 7
or an 8..
