Hey guys-
Well, I've been trying to convince my father we need an RV.. After Oshkosh
last year, we both thought we'd like to have one.. However, we wanted to
build one, just don't really have the time.. So, we'd like to buy one.. So,
a local guy, who had built several RV's and won a few awards at Oshkosh, is
selling his RV6..
So, I'm wondering if you guys could tell me a few hints/tips of things that
are good "buying an RV" questions to ask.. One thing we would like to know,
is there anyway to "stress test" an RV before we buy? I guess we just want
to be safe in the RV..
Any hints, feedback, etc would be greatfully appreciated..
Thanks
Jeff

Jeff, I would suggest contacting some of the RV builders in your area. There
are quite a few close to u. Arrange for a pre-buy inspection. We have
purchased two RV's in that manner and have no complaints. U might check on insurance
requirements prior to purchase. I recommend J.T. Helms at Nationair. He has
insured both of ours.

Good luck.

There is no way to stress test any aircraft that I know of with out first
destroying it. Hire a A&P to go over it that knows RV's.

If the airplane has been built to specification and still claims to meet
that spec, you could put on a parachute and go fly it to it's design limits.
In the case of an RV-6, loading it to 1375# (aerobatic gross) and pulling
6G would be a valid test, as would loading it to 1600# and pulling 4.4g.
Repeat for the negative limits (-3 and -2.2, if I recall clearly).
This would test the airplane's design limits, and in theory it would do it
without destroying it. Mind you, you might have a hard time finding a
seller who's willing to let you do that with his airplane.
And in any case, hiring an A&P to look at the airplane is going to be
necessary anyway unless you're feeling particularly mechanically inclined.

For the last couple of weeks, I have had a number of calls from builders
inquiring about the arrival of additional ADT-300 units. We sold out
our first batch fairly quickly, and have received a second batch.
However, it appears that the manufacturer can't seem to catch with the
demand fast enough, so we don't know how long they will be around for
those that interested.
If you are interested in finding out about the product, you can see can
