Five days to BBQ DAY. Please plan to visit with us, eat some BBQ & talk
airplanes.
Location: Slobovia Outernational Airport (MS71) 10 mi north of Jackson
MS on the Memphis sectional
Approx. 4000' usable with decent approaches.
Email me direct for a map if you are driving. (Don't trust the online
mapping services for this one.)
You are welcome to come for the day, or stay the weekend. Just throw a
bedroll in the plane/car & we'll find you a place to sleep that's out of
the heat. If you plan to overnight, please call us at 601-879-9596 or
drop us an email at ceengland@bellsouth.net so we can get breakfast
stuff lined up.
If you've never done any a/c metal work, you can come & play with drills
& rivet guns. Alternative engine discussions will probably revolve
around the Mazda rotary. (Sorry 'bout that. :-) )
No formal seminars, but lots of knowledge is in the air when we have
these events.
Come on down!
Charlie

Question:
Just starting on wing kit.
QB fuse on order for delivery in Nov 2004.
Trying to plan purchase sequence for remaining components: avionics,
electrical, engine, finish kit.
Am planning on new Lyco/Superior/equivalent IO360 180hp and maybe Van's
firewall fwd kit.
Panel probably full IFR, probably glass but probably not something as
expensive as EFIS One, Chelton, etc.
What is the best order to purchase these major items if they can't all be
purchased at once?
Thanks,
Allen Fulmer

I won't be buying anything electronic (possible exception: inexpensive
comm) until the very last possible moment. The technology moves so fast
that if you buy now for flight next year, the electronics will be 3
years out of date. :-)
FWIW,

Don't be in a rush to stick an engine on your QB fuse. Once you do, you're
married to it and it becomes difficult to move it if needed. I still have
my completed slow build fuse sitting on short black pipe for gear legs.
After attaching wings and tail feathers during the past 2 weeks, I will be
starting on building a canopy, then get serious about instrument
panel/electrical after attaching the engine mount. My short black pipe
"gear legs" keeps the fuse low enough to work on it without having to climb
a ladder each time I want to do something like making and installing seat
backs, installing flooring, installing a pitch servo for auto-pilot,
installing the flap actuator assembly, adding fuel and brake lines, etc.,
etc, etc. By the time you get your QB fuse in Nov and get many things done
on it, enough months will have passed that you will have a better idea of
what you want in an IFR panel (Grand Rapids Tech, Dynon's EFIS-D10 as a
backup, etc) Once you get that done, you can order an engine and usually get
it delivered in less than 3 months. With Van's firewall forward kit ordered
at the same time, it should go together fairly quick (maybe).

Allen,
Its your choice, but I am leaving avionics to the very last because the
electronic marketplace is moving so fast. Buying today means I buy
yesterdays product.
You need the engine in place to organise the exhaust, cooling, wiring,
plumbing and accessories around it, so it cant go in last.
Besides, if the money supply slows down, you can fly with few electronics,
but you cant fly without an engine.
Have fun
