Therefore, here is just a plain old question: In an article on flared fittings in the RVator (Third issue, 2003 page 13) it talks about tightening the AN818 nut to the specified torque. Question: What tool does one use for this? Obviously the standard torque wrench and socket won't do because the pipe is there. If you are really anal enough to torque your fittings make sure you compensate for the added length of the crowsfoot. One way that works is to position the crowsfoot at right angles to the torque wrench. This makes it a direct read almost. If you stick it out front, you will have to do some math. Snug so it doesn't leak is the easiest. Doesn't take much on a taper fitting. No sealing compound should be used. And because it is a taper seal, it is self-locking although I have seen drilled B-nuts. If you have a leaker, use the v-seal soft washers that they use routinely in air-conditioning.
