Thanks,

I think the rudder is the same however the elevator & horizoltal stabilizer
is thicker. Stan

Two different animals, the RV-7 I think now uses the RV-9 Rudder for better
spin recovery but the Vert Stab and Horizontal parts are different.

Doug,
No the 7 and 9 empennage are quite different. The main difference is
strength, the RV7 is stressed for aerobatics, the 9 is not. Additionally the
RV7 tailplane has a swept leading edge (it is common to the RV6, RV7,
RV8)while the RV9 has a straight leading edge.
Elevators are physically interchangeable between 6,7,8,9, however those with
0.016 skins are only applicable to the RV6. RV7, RV8 require 0.020 skins to
control flutter against the higher Vne of those aircraft. Dunno about RV9
elevator skins.
The RV7 should preferably fly with the wide chord rudder that is unique to
the RV7. The narrow chord rudder with 0.020 skins is commont to 7, 8 and RV6
with the tall fin.
Dont mix and match without discussions with Vans. There are strength,
balance, flutter and spin recovery implications in designing tails.
Regards, David Francis, Canberra, Australia.
