I managed to finesse mine into a pretty fair rendition of "per the plans", although for me the tricky part was trimming the bent down flange so that the inner one didn`t bottom out on the skin surface. It would be nice if Van provided a max dimension here. I don`t know, maybe he does, now. Not when my plans were drawn in late `96. If you look at enough RVs at the different fly-ins, you`ll eventually come across examples of the rib method. I`ve seen a couple three over the years. In fact, I think "Franklinstein" (the RV-8 prototype) is one example.
