That's a fabulous German marketing term meaning one product that is proclaimed to do it all. So if you can't afford a used Mig, King Air, and bush plane, you have to find a plane that fits what you think the majority of your missions will require. The RV7 may not be a great plane for any specific mission, but does it allow you to meet most of your flying needs? That's a personal question. Also, if you like formation flying and you can afford a MiG or even a jet-trainer like the L39, you might get like 1 other person who you can go formation flying with every other month or two if you're lucky. They had a great article in a recent EAA magazine about an active F16 squadron at Maxwell AFB that fly RV-4's in their free time. Yaks and CJ's are also very affordable and there are decent number of ex-fighter pilots flying those on a regular basis. That might be an option for you. They are slower than your average RV, but they have that military look and feel with the smells and sounds of a radial. What exactly is the appeal of an RV to an ex fighter pilot?....I mean the RV's are fabulous to us ex spam can jockeys but I'm having a hard time imagining why someone who has done aerobatics at 600mph for a living would be interested in a measly 200mph on a good day...and spend up to $100k getting there... I mean are RV's really THAT good?...:) Frank Do not archive ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 07:50:09 PM PST US From: "Don Hall" Subject: RE: RV7-List: To the fighter pilots --> RV7-List message posted by: "Don Hall" BTW: 'eierlegende wolmilchsau' = An animal that gives eggs, wool, milk, and pork. Also have any of you got super or turbo chargers on you engine. I am thinking of going for a turbo-charged constant speed engine on my next plane and looking for any info I can find. Right now at 15500 wot I get 170kts with 2670rpm and would like to run the engine slower with the same speeds or better. Any help would be appriecated. He has some relevant experience. He flew his RV4 around the world on a carburetted fixed pitch prop and flew the same plane to Antarctica with a fuel injected, turbocharged constant speed deal. Try him at jonj@flymore.com.au He barely sips fuel at FL230.
