Subject: | antenna questions |
Hi my name is Paul Watson and I=92m new to the RV7 list. I have been
building
my 7 for the past 2 =BD years and just now finding out about this
resource. I
just don=92t get out of my shop much but glad I found you all better
late than
never...
I nearing completion of my project and needing to install antennas and
wanted to avoid the wing tip antennas if possible but realize there is
not
much choice for a VOR/LOC/GS antenna except the =93cat whiskers=94
mounted on
the vertical stabilizer.
CI-158C Dipole was recommended by one of my avionics sources. The base
of
the antenna is considerably larger then the width of the top of the VS
and
other issues of installation I don=92t have figured out.
Are there any builders out there with experience mounting this type of
antenna on an RV7? Other suggestions? I am open to your experienced
input.
Thanks,
Paul Watson

I can't answer that question but I'm sure if you check
www.vansairforce.com you will probably find the answer there!

Paul,
I used the OMNI VOR Nav antenna AV-532L
(http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/avpages/av532.php). It's about
$100 cheaper than the Comant antenna. I mounted it on the belly skin
just in front of the HS (between F-708 and F-709 I think). It's held
in place with two AN3 bolts with doublers on the belly skin. Reception
is great (even from inside the hangar!).

Scott,
Would you happen to have picture of the antenna mounted in that location?
Do you have to keep cleaning the antenna from exhaust residue?
Thanks,

Thanks for your reply. Did you angle the antenna up toward HS for better
ground clearance or is it an issue?
Thanks,
Paul
