Matt,
I have removed each tank from my flying RV-7A with little trouble other than
a bit of scuffing on the arms. I installed my floats in back of the second
bay because I have floptubes so I don't know if you can install in place or
not. The tanks came off in under twenty minutes and back on in about the
same. Nothing to worry to much about.
I installed the floats using proseal as the rubber gaskets leaked and were
the reason I had to remove the tanks. I agree do it now before you paint.
