    Subject: Contributions Down By 17%...
Dear Listers, As of today, Contributions to the Matronics List Fund Raiser are lagging behind last year at this time by roughly 17%. I have a Fund Raiser each year simply to cover my operating costs for the Lists. I *do not* accept any advertising income to support the Lists and rely solely on the Contributions of members to keep the expenses paid. I run all of my own servers and they are housed here locally, and the Internet connection is a commercial-grade, T1 connection with public address space. I also maintain a full backup system that does nightly backups of all List-related data so that in the event of a server crash or worse, all of the Lists and the many years of List archive data could be restored onto a new server in a matter of hours. All of this costs a fair amount of money, not to mention a significant amount of my personal time. I have a Fund Raiser each year to cover these costs and I ask that members that feel they receive a benefit from my investments make a modest Contribution each year to support the continued operation and upgrade of these services. If you enjoy the Lists, please make a Contribution today. I also offer some incentive gifts for larger Contribution levels. At the Contribution Web Wite, you can use a credit card, Paypal, or personal check to show your support for the continuation of these services: http://www.matronics.com/contribution Or, drop a personal check in the mail to: Matt Dralle / Matronics 581 Jeannie Way Livermore CA 94550 USA Thank you for your support! I have both lightspeed plasma 3 no mags two batteries one for the avionics and one for the ignition. I guess the choice is a personel one. I think there is arguments for and against but my research with friends who have electronic other love the smooth running and better fuel burn. The system will run down to 4.5 v so probably will run out of fuel before battery. A matter of opinion. Ditto to Aussie Hugh. I have 2000 plus hours on my dual lightspeed ignition systems on my RV8. I have on of the first systems and am pleased. I uses the dual battery system also because it gives redundency in the unlikely event that both the alternnator and one battery failed. I used the large aircraft battery as primary and a smallbattery wired as a standby. The engine will run approx. 3 hours on the small standby battery in the event that the primary system failed. The major advantage of the Lightspeed system is that it is a full capacitance discharge (40 plus thousand volt) versus a low discharge on the inductive systems that are cheaper. Engine start is a non event (especially in very cold weather (below zero here in wisconsin). I have found that Nipon Denso X27GPRU spark plugs work the best. Also <Alshragg@me.com> use MSD racing wire for your harness. No shield is necessary and it will outlast economy wire used by most auto shops. When you make up your harness, test each wire before installation, it must have 20 or better ohms per foot. Good luck with your project. Note: MSD wire etc. is available at most speed shops. local or mail order. The video in the cockpit and on the ground was shot with Sony HDR-CX550v HD camcorders ( www.sonystyle.com/product/en/hdrcx550v ). The audio was captured with the camcorder using its Audio Line Level input plugged into the "rear passenger 1 headphone output" (not the co-pilot output which is connected to the RV-8's rear passenger headphones) from the PS Engineering 3000 intercom though a homemade impedance matching circuit. The PS3000 mixes the Comm/Intercom/Music nicely and Music audio pull-down during Comm/Intercom is being done by a combination of the PS3000 and the auto-gain control on the camcorder. I installed a 1/8" stereo jack in the backseat area on the right side (see attached pictures). If I were going to do it again I would definitely go with a pair of RCA-style line-level bulkhead jacks instead of the 1/8" stereo jack. I've had some trouble with the right-channel cutting in and out because of the jack/vibration. RCA's would hold much tighter. - Matt Dralle RV-8 #82880 N998RV http://www.mattsrv8.com - Matt's RV-8 Construction Log http://www.youtube.com/MattsRV8 - Matt's RV-8 HDTV YouTube Channel Status: 124+ Hours TTSN - The Fun Never Stops...
