Bob,
I would just use a mild detergent like liquid car wash soap. I've also used
windex on the bare skins with good results. I do wipe it right of though and
then go over it with a damp cloth.
Hope this helps.

Subject: RV7-List: Cleaning Aluminum Skins
I am close to moving my RV7A to the hangar for final assembly. I plan on
flying my RV before it is painted for a while and it has been sitting in my
shop for a long time getting dust, and whatever on it. I would like to
clean the skins but I don't want to polish it. I would like some
recommendations on what to use to clean/wash it. I have heard there are
some cleaning agents that should not be used prior to painting. Are there
any recommendations out there for washing/cleaning the aluminum.

I have use liquid wrench with silicone to remove overspray etc and seems to polish
aluminum. Some people say that the silicone will interfere with paint application
but I would think that acid etch would go through and prep metal.
