Regards Whiskey Compass. FAR for VFR Day only, says a "Magnetic Direction Indicator" is required. No where does it say independent, mechanical or non electric. If you have a Magnetometer or EFIS that provides Magnetic Direction Information I would say you are OK. If your EFS only provides TRK you may have a problem. A question for those who flying and maintaining there RV8. How often if ever do you remove the forward baggage shelf? I ask because I have made a bracket to mount the park brake but have just realised I would need undo the brake line to remove it and release the baggage shelf from the park brake bracket. Should I redesign it or move on? Thanks Greg 82070

My 8A has been flying for 5 years. I had the forward baggage shelf out twice. I mounted my parking brake vertically on the bulkhead aft of the baggage shelf. I used two pieces of 0.040 x3/4" angle as brackets such that the parking brake valve extended below the bulkhead. This made plumbing much easier and does not interfere with removing the shelf.
