I just finished my RV8 and it had its first flight by an experienced RV driver. I took some lessons in a RV7, but I am not comfortable flying it and scared to fly mine. I am having a hard time getting good landings. I am used to flaring over the runway, but he teaches flying it to about a foot over the runway and then bleeding off the airspeed until it quits flying. He does this because of the abrupt stalls and does not want it to happen too high above the runway. Is this the way others fly RVs. I would like some other opinions. I did stall the RV7 and the stall is very rapid without any warning. Thanks, Tom _____________________________________________________________ Succeed in Your Weight Loss Goals. Easiest Protein Diet. Hey Tom, There are many different techniques to landing any airplane. I find that I use the same/similar technique on every aircraft I fly be it an RV to Boei ng. The method you mentioned is good for learning where the wheels are on the first couple of landings, but then I would transition to landing your p lane just as you would land a Cessna. Come down final at stall speed plus about 30 percent, flare and find the ground. Go take a few lessons in a Cu b if you can find one, it is more difficult to land than an RV. If you are even a little comfortable in it, you will have no trouble in your 8. I d on't think the 8 has an abrupt stall, mine gives me plenty of warning with a shutter of the tail. You will also feel the controls getting a lot light er. Go up and stall it a few times, straight ahead and fly it around for a while at stall plus 30 percent and in no time at all, you will not even ne ed and airspeed indicator to know that you are right in the sweet spot.
