Yes=2C But>> I have the airfoil gear on my 8 and they are SWEEEET. If you c an afford the difference it is worth it. And the drilled brake lines are gr eat. Al Grajek From: rickrv8@msn.comTo: rv8-list@matronics.comSubject: Re: RV8-List: Grove Streamlined Gear For RV-8...Date: Sun=2C 6 Jul 2008 17:49:04 -0400 Matt=2C I have the non-airfoil shaped Grove gear on my -8 and have about 350 hours on them so far. First of all the gear has performed flawlessly and was a v ery easy retrofit. I always seem to take a bit of a hit for my position bu t I believe you ought to strongly consider the non-airfoil gear as well. T he reason being is that first=2C they are about six pounds lighter than the airfoil shaped gear and seventeen pounds lighter than Van's steel gear. I verified this against the steel gear that I still have in my basement (the y're for sale if anyone is interested in a good deal). Second=2C they're l ess expensive than the airfoil shaped gear. And third=2C you really don't save much time with regard to the fiberglass. I used the fiberglass gear f airing Mark Frederick sells for the F-1 Rocket. It's a perfect fit and ext remely easy to attach. You simply glue the trailing edge together and you' re done. The rectangular shape of the gear automatically aligns the fiberg lass fairing. If you want top and bottom intersection fairings=2C like mos t people do=2C you still have install them on with the airfoil shaped gear. If you make your own that's where most of the fiberglass work comes into play. The only real benefit to the airfoil shaped gear in my opinion is if your really want a polished aluminum gear. But the loss of six pound=2C e specially up front for an -8=2C is pretty significant. I'm doing the Grove gear and though my plane is a long way from flying I ca n tell you that the groves are very nice indeed. Cost is obviously a factor but I felt it was worth it. I guess only time will tell when I taxi/take o ff/land the first time. Check out this entry (and subsequent others) in my kitlog for the installation thereof:-http://www.mykitlog.com/users/display_ log.php?user=jpreou&project=45&category=0&log=45580&row=150 Other builders have good websites as well=2C and a google search will turn up a whole lot more info for you.--Jeff ________________________________From: o wner-rv8-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-rv8-list-server@matronics. com]Sent: Mon 7/7/2008 04:08To: Jeff Preou=3B rv8-list@matronics.comSubject : RV8-List: Grove Streamlined Gear For RV-8...--> RV8-List message posted b y: Matt Dralle <dralle@matronics.com>RV Listers=2CGrove makes a streamlined =2C airfoiled landing gear for the RV-8. Saves having to use the fiberglas s. They also have the brake line embedded within the gear leg. Over all =2C they weigh a few pounds less.Does anyone have any experience with these gear legs? What is the cost differential over the stock ones? Do they fi t as good or better than stock?Should an RV-8 builder bother with the hassl e of deleting the stock ones from the Van's kit and ordering these? And anot her historic question... Why-o-why did Van's get away from the super sweet looking swept-back=2C Whitman-style gear on the RV-8? The spring steel=2C forward facing gear on the RV-8 just look dopy...Matt###################### ######################################This e-mail message has been scanned for Viruses and Contentand cleared by NetIQ MailMarshal and Symantec Antivi rus############################################################

Where do you get the single pushrod instead of the chains and springs for the RV-8 tail wheel?
