Matt,
That is the Smoking Airplanes system and a number of guys here at Spruce
Creek use it. Most of RV-8s mount it in the forward baggage (see photo on
web site at _http://www.smokingairplanes.com/_
(http://www.smokingairplanes.com/) )
Cons:
- Installation requires adding brackets to hold tank weight - remember to
plan for 56# times the number of Gs
- Installation requires an easy access switch plus arming switch
- Messy to deal with.
- Buying smoke oil
- Storing smoke oil
- Cleaning oil off bottom of airplane
Pro:
- Incredibly Cool

Last week, someone posted a couple of pictures of 37 RVs flying in
formation at
OSH this year. Very cool, btw. But what caught my eye was how many of
them
had smoke systems installed. I found the following at ACS which looks
interesting,
but kind of big for an RV-8:
http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/appages/sa102-103.php
Is this what people are using?
Where would one mount this system in an RV-8? Behind the baggage area?
In the
engine compartment?
Seems really cool to have one of these systems, but are they just a big
pain in
the ass to maintain?
Thanks for the thoughts,

Dear Fellow Builders, I'm still trying to select which EFIS with SV to buy. The
MGL Odysseys has the biggest screen of all (at least I think so) which is a good
thing. Issue is I spoke with a fellow at one of the AP system dealers, nice,
helpful young?fellow, that indicated the MGL Odyssey speed was low and that
the screen transition was jerky when compared to AFS or GRT. That I would be
bettered served by the other systems. I have never seen one working. Who has an
Odyssey?and what's the truth? Best regards, Bill of Georgia??
