Welcome back. We missed you. It's been dead on this list since you've
been gone!
I'm doing lots of speed mods to my 8A getting ready for the racing season.
I haven't posted all of them, but you can see some at _www.rv-8a.net_
(http://www.rv-8a.net) in Dec 10 and later.

Dear Builder Buds, no the list is not dead. Some of us are just too damned
busy building to write about it. I had some engraving done yesterday and I
wanted to share it with you all. Sorry for the photos blur. I think the pro
duct is great, service was superb and friendly and price was 30% less than
Bill's Engraving that Matt D. used. The fellow that runs the place is Mr. J
oe, nice guy who says he spent his airforce time hanging bombs and rockets
on F4s in V mam. Great guy! You can see his card/ letter head in one of the
photos. I was impressed by the work and recommend his shop. He can also do
self stick vinyl letters, numbers and words for cockpit markings. Best reg
ards, Bill of Georgia

I was browsing the P-Mag web site this week. They look pretty cool, but the web
site really makes no mention of whether there's any real performance/economy
benefit to them. Does anyone have any real world experience along these lines?
I've got two standard Slick mags on my IO-390. If I dumped $2200 on a pair of
P-Mags, would I really notice any difference? The IO-390 already starts and runs
great. More power and better economy are always welcome, though...

I have 200 hours on a dual PMag install using auto plugs (NGK BR8ES) in my
8A. I installed the PMags as replacement for a dual Lightspeed Plasma II+
install after 400 problem plagued hours. The PMags have been rock solid.
I'm running a stock Van's O-360 back fitted with Airflow Performance
injection. I run 80%+ LOP, typically 30 to 40 degrees or so - but can go
further without getting a rough engine (but at that point the power is
dropping off faster than the fuel flow). At 2350 RPM and 23.5" or so I'm at
8gph or less, and CHTs drop 50 degrees from ROP. I believe the ignitions
enable this performance.
I do know of an RV-8 running a Lightspeed Plasma II+ and a PMag. He too was
running a dual Lightspeeds but when one died he replaced the dead one with
the PMag. Performance wise he does not see much difference.
The other aspect I can offer is that the service after the sale on the PMags
has been superb. I'm on their short list to get the 6 cylinder model for
the RV-10 project - and have been told I'll have them in time for an August
maiden flight. My brand new IO-540 slick mags, harness and spark plugs will
soon be for sale.

I have over 200 hours on my dual P-Mags in my 8A with an IO-360. The
performance in all aspects of flight has been very consistent. Fuel burn at
50 degrees LOP is about 8 GPH at altitude. Installation and timing is very
simple and the support has been outstanding. I run auto plugs and replace
them annually.
I bought the new engine with the P-Mags installed so I can't directly
compare the performance to traditional mags, but I have been very pleased
with the system.

This the main reason why I pulled the Lightspeeds off my airplane.

Dear Carl,
How was Lightspeed Engineering to deal with while trouble shooting
your Dual LSE's during these "400 problem plagued hours"? Just
curious...

Very interesting. I'm curious how much weight all that stuff is adding.
Have you weight it with all those speed addons? (Hoping for lower weight
over higher speed for mine)
