See the picture below. I sent the below to Ken today at Vans. His answer was no answer possible as they have no data on it. So, for any of you structural engineer types out there, can you offer an opinion on whether oversizing these holes creates a structural issue? They are now 10/32 holes in the longeron vice the plans 6/32 holes. Thanks - grumpy gengrumpy@aol.com > > > > > > Ken, i was going to use 8/32 vice 6/32 for the fairings under the horizontal. Mis-drilled and now 10-32 tapped. Do you see a structural issue for me here? > > Thanks - John > > > John Miller - Sent from my iPhone

The whole "thread the hole in the longeron" idea never appealed to me. I do n't think threads in aluminum would last too long. I drilled these holes us ing #28 bit and then mounted #6 nut-plates behind them. As you are now over drilled I suspect you have weaken the longeron somewhat, but I'd guess marginally. If you have reservations then you can add a .063 " backing plate on the inside of the longeron angle along the rivet line the length of the screw holes. Consider adding nut-plates if you do.
