Does it matter if the antenna conforms to that curve ? 2. There seems to b e a reason that people run the light wires for the Nav and in my case landing lights thru two plastic loops attache to the front leg of the antenna. Must this always be the case of is there an alternate way to mount those wires without causing interference ? 3. The antenna is grounded to the skin of the wing and there are two small screw holes that are used to attach the front leg to the plastic wing tip. Can it also be attached by glue? 4. Does it matter if the antenna is attached to the top or the bottom of the wing tip? any help or suggestions are appreciated On Sun, Mar 20, 2016 at 3:03 AM, RV8-List Digest Server < rv8-list@matronics.com> wrote: > * > > ================================================= > Online Versions of Today's List Digest Archive > ================================================= > > Today's complete RV8-List Digest can also be found in either of the > two Web Links listed below. Does it matter if the antenna conforms to that curve ? No. 2. There seems to b e a reason that people run the light wires for the Nav and in my case landing lights thru two plastic loops attache to the front leg of the antenna. Must this always be the case of is there an alternate way to mount those wires without causing interference ? No. Depending on what nav/strobes you are using there is advantage to keep as much separation between the antenna and lights as possible. Mount the antenna as far aft in the wingtip as you can. 3. The antenna is grounded to the skin of the wing and there are two small screw holes that are used to attach the front leg to the plastic wing tip. Can it also be attached by glue? Yes. RTV would work as well as mico/epoxy paste. 4. Does it matter if the antenna is attached to the top or the bottom of the wing tip? No. For both of my planes I built the VOR antenna and mounted it to the end wing rib on a light piece of angle (page 13-16 of the AeroElectric Connection manual, photo attached of my plane before I moved it further aft). This way the antenna says with the wing when you take the wing tip off, and greatly simplifies tuning the antenna for resonance. Note the antenna dimensions have been changed to take advantage of the full width and shape of the wingtip. The antenna works quite well but if you do not have access to an antenna analyzer or a ham radio guy that has one, stick with the Archer product. If you are running LED nav/strobes be wary of RFI. There are however straight forward ways to eliminate any issues.
