I run two PC-625s (two are needed to hit my IFR electrical power reserve target). Both are used for engine start and in normal mode run in parallel. I replace one battery every three years - so no battery is older than six years. I started out replacing one every two years but found they still had a lot of life left in them. The pulled batteries go on to a second life in various tractors. Note - I once killed a new battery by leaving the master on. While some say you can beat new life into abused Odyssey batteries, it is better to replace the battery and then experiment on the dead one for service in a tractor. I change mine out every three years as a precautionary measure. So far no battery failures. That may be overkill, but it affords me some peace of mind and Im willing to pay for that. I end up replacing my 680 every 2 years. At about the one and half year mark, in the winter they get weak and have trouble turning the cold engine, especially after sitting 2 to 3 weeks. My battery is in the rear if the plane, that may make a difference compared to engine compartment installs. Been that way for the 10 years or so Ive been flying the airplane. I have never had a problem starting even after leaving it for a month. Also, have never used a maintainer on it. However I did order another figuring 6 years is long enough. This is a good discussion. Nice to have all this feed back.
