Subject: | Aileron stop inboard or outboard? |
RV-8 Listers,
It looks like I need an aileron stop on the left wing to keep one of the aileron
actuator rods from contacting the side of the hole it goes through at full stick
throw. (I've already cut out the hole to the edge of the actuator support.)
Van's plans show installing the stop on the inboard actuator bracket near where
the actuator rod connects. There is another bracket, much easier to get to,
on the outboard edge of the wing. Why not put the aileron stop there?
Thanks!

Just thinking out loud here, but if it is closer to the push rod
you don't put a twisting force on the aileron when it hits the stop.

Keep in mind that when you get ready to fly, you legs may serve as your
aileron stops, depending on your leg position relative to the stick. My
DAR worried about my aileron encountering a little interference at the
aft right position, on my -10, until I pointed out that even if Twiggy
were the pilot, you couldn't get the stick that far right. May be
different with your setup.

There is a much easier way to make a stop. You make a nylon bushing that
goes on one of the bolts. Just search under Aileron Stop on vans forum
there are lots of examples .
