Dennis guessed right, here is a reply from Van's for the record: The skeleton is a pretty tight fit in the skin, you will need to remove the vinyl from the skin and the spars to get the holes to line up. In addition, it may be necessary to adjust the rib profile very slightly, especially around the front to get the holes lined up. Using some light grease on the ribs can also help the skin slide across them more easily, and avoid scratching the skin. Sure wish they had put that in the manual. It clearly says it is ok to leave the skin on during drilling. __________________________________
