I was asking because I am considering the Sam Jame's cowl. =========== Mathew, The RV-6,7,9 all have the same firewall. There are differences in the cowl bottoms depending on engines. In most cases, the -6 cowl will fit the -9. It never dawned on me that the nut was just a jamb nut! I took your advice, and now I'll just have to do some flying on this beautiful day to check it out! This also saves me from having to clean fuel stains off the wings periodically. Thanks! ________________________________ Message 3 _____________________________________ Time: 10:10:35 AM PST US From: "Glenn Brasch" Subject: RV9-List: Capt. Haynes Daughters Transplant Fund- Off Topic. --> RV9-List message posted by: "Glenn Brasch" I gave what I could afford. I am reminded of this with today's mail, when I got a tax receipt back from the organization. Maybe now is the time for anyone who has been procrastinating, to donate. My 2 cents for a worthy family and cause. DO NOT ARCHIVE. How did you get the old one out? Mine is so tight I was not sure if it was an insert or somehow machined thart way. Were VANS able to sell you a new insert or did you get one made up? The vibration occured as the mains touched but before the nose wheel would touch. Replacing that steel tube insert cured the problem. They tell me to order a the cowlings from a 9. Thats how Van's keeps his prices (and inventory) so low. In case you didn't realize it, the RV-7 is an RV-9 fuselage mated to the aerobatic wings and tail of the RV-8. I suspect the RV-6 fuselage is also the same dimensions at the firewall so a -6 cowl should fit on the -7 and -9. It's the wing mounting structure and Vee shaped forward fuselage bottom that are different on the RV-6 (RV-7/9 fuselages have a flat bottom under the wing spar carry through structure)... along with a few other subtle changes that make the RV-7 and 9 parts able to be designed on CAD and punched out on the CNC punch machine. In other words, are the firewall dimensions of the side-by-side airframes the same (or at least pretty darn close)? Thanks for any input, Konrad Do not archive
